Kamalpur Bajwa

Pakistan / Punjab / Chawinda /

People from Kamalpur were the first in this Sialkot District to go abroad. Specifically they moved to east africa with british. this village was founded by one of the brothers who was upset ( parahawan nalo ruus ke ais pind nu wasaya ) with other brothers in the neighbouring village called ???

[NB: Phillowali (an off-shoot of Chawinda Bajwa)is name of village in question. The founder of Kamalpur Bajwa was granted land by his kinsfolk of Chawinda.] Since, some 100 years ago, this village produded more educated people than any other village in the adjoing area.

Kamalpur Bajwa was formed by Divaan Bajwa (Farnasheen Bajwa his Muslim name). He was the first person of Kamalpur to revert to Islam. He was an employee as Saees (looking after royal horses) of Multan's Muslim ruler and that was the place where he got the influence of Islam. He also convinced his mother to embrace Islam. She had a chronic illness and lived far away from him as she was living with her other sons in village Peelowali (or Bheelowali). He requested to his brothers, if she dies she must be buried, but in defiance they cremated her. For this reason when returning home, he swore not to live with them but any other place. That is how his Chawinda's Bajwa brethren persuaded him to settle in their land, where there was an abandoned house (dera) of Kamal Khan Bhatti who had left the place long ago, in which Farnasheen settled. Peelowali is not an offshoot of Chawinda as can be seen from Bajwa genealogy, Chawinda's founder was the descendant of "Kohlu", and Farnasheen's father "Peelu" was grandson of "Kalu" (Kohlu's brother). Indeed the neighbouring village “Rajiyan” is offshoot of Chawinda.

  • M_Naseem_Bajwa In addition to the above history of Kamalpur, when Farnasheen left Peelowali away from his brothers, he swore to settle after crossing two rivers. When going through Chawinda on his horse, his Bajwa brethren of Chawinda asked him of his journey and on his reply they requested him not go any far, "you crossed Naala Badyana(which flows in between chawinda and wajeedwali)and crossing Naala Lunda(between Chawinda and present Kamalpur)you would fulfill your Qasam of crossing two rivers and run your horse across Naala Lunda and occupy your land as much you like". one story from elders of village that it was late afternoon or just before sunset, secondly his horse had a problem with one leg, so hastily and quickly he run the horse on the line which is today's Kamalpur boundary.
