Type 93 radar at Brizlee Wood, 8 miles west of RAF Boulmer.

Situated high on Alnwick Moor stands RRH Brizlee Wood home of the Type 93 long-range surveillance and control radar. Its function, to provide a long-range early warning and control picture for the UK Air Surveillance And Control System (ASACS). Round the clock 365 days a year, Brizlee Wood scans the air approaches over the North Sea , giving ASACS ample warning time to identify and if necessary intercept potential intruders into United kingdom airspace. Several times during the year, Brizlee Wood plays an integral part in major NATO exercises, watching for waves of aircraft targeting the site and the east coast in general.
