Fort Tompkins

This earlier fortification was to be modernized under the Third System.

As of 1851, it was intended to be armed with thirty-two 32-pounder seacoast guns, two 12-pounder guns, ten flank howitzers, seven 8" heavy seacoast howizters, four 13" mortars, eight 10" heavy mortars and one 16" stone mortar, for a total of 64 guns.
