One of ten metal houses by the Lustron Corp in Minneapolis, and the only one not in the far south side of the city. Built in 1949. Lustron began to design pre-fabricated houses in 1947 and marketed them to GIs returning from World War II. There were nearly 3,000 of these enameled-steel homes constructed between 1948 and 1950. The low-maintenance exterior, invented by Carl Strandlund of Chicago, had the color baked in. About 2,000 Lustron homes are still in existence in 36 states.
