  • The only evidence that the 'Kamal Maula complex' marks the location of the Sarasvati temple is the inscription of Arjunavarman (1210-15), found built up into the walls by K. K. Lele in 1903. The inscription (now displayed inside the entrance on the east wall, mentions the Sarasvati temple, but there is no evidence if the inscription comes from the site or was brought from elsewhere in Dhar in the 15th century when the current building was made. The Solanki and Vaghelas repeatedly sacked Dhar in the dying days of the Paramaras, removing the libraries to their capitals in western India. The Sarasvati was removed too, re-installed in Saurashtra in 1271. (The inscription reporting this published by A S Gadre in 1943). This happened before the Khaljis, who found Dhar desolate and in ruins in 1305, as we learn from the inscription on the tomb of Adullah Shah Changal at Dhar. By the way, can anybody mark the site of this tomb? Finally, my dear friends, I would note that it was the British, seeking to divide India and its people, who directed the Hindu faithful toward the Kamal Maula, conveniently ignoring the historical facts.
