In 1863, Andrew S. Upson, established Union Nut Co.,in Unionville Connecticut, to manufacture hot forged nuts. Eleven years later in 1872, the company, entered into a partnership with Lamson & Sessions of Cleveland and Southington, Connecticut based, Aetna Nut to construct a works in Cleveland. The name of the company was changed to Upson Nut Co. in 1883, and in 1889, Andrew Upson moved to Cleveland as the works there became the most important part of his business .
