Originally built as a public library building funded as one of several "Carnegie Libraries" funded by industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, it served as the main Phoenix Public Library from 1908 to 1953. It is now part of the Arizona State Library system, and serves as a multi-use facility. It currently hosts meeting space for non-profits, professional development workshops, and programs of the Arizona Center for the Book. The Arizona Women's Hall of Fame is also hosted here.
