Building built in the 18th century, it was once served as a home to Doctor Wong family. Doctor Wong was in the pioneer batch of medical study in Hong Kong University, whom classmate include Dr. Sun Yat Sen, a Chinese revolutionary, first president and founding father of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Today, it has been refurbished into an Artistic Retreat with most of its original architectural essence still intact.

Opened around early 2010, The Happy 8 Retreat occupies a three storey beautifully restored corner shop house along Market Street in the heart of Ipoh Old Town, conveniently located within a delightful enclave of heritage sites, shops, restaurants, pubs, galleries and financial districts are all within a stone's throw from the Retreat.

The Happy 8 Cafe is a serious food in a chilled-out setting, without pretence or the price-tag, offering guilt-free dining.

You'll find well-cooked, honest, uncomplicated but imaginative food. Our menu is big on taste and big on portions, with dishes to share and small taster plates to try out some great new tastes. Our team of chefs are passionate about sourcing both classic and new ingredients straight from the farm gate and fresh off the trawlers.
