Originally the Lake Erie & Detroit River Railway, created by Hiram Walker.
Sold to Pere Marquette and later to the Chesapeake & Ohio (now part of CSX Transportation), and then to CN Rail, who abandoned the line in 1992, donating it to the Essex Region Conservation Authority in 1993. Chrysler Canada later donated money to convert the rail alignment into an all-weather gravel-surfaced trail facility, in return for naming rights. The trail currently ends at Essex County Road 34 in Ruthven, with an extension to Wheatley along the remainder of the former railway alignment in Essex County at the planning stages.
