Prior to its closure in 2020, the Fountain Square Branch Library had been located in the historic Fountain Block Building since 1994. However, its presence in the Fountain Square community goes back to 1896, when the original Prospect Branch opened as the third oldest in the system. Indy Reads Books took over the space later that year after moving from Massachusetts Avenue.
