Established in 1846, nine years after Michigan became a state, it is the oldest non-sectarian cemetery in Detroit. Notable burials include Henry B. Joy, founder of Packard and Lincoln Motors Michigan Territorial Governor Lewis Cass and Detroit Mayor Coleman Young. Also has a large number of Civil War veterans and a memorial for Detroit Firefighters.
