The new 78m-long bridge, with three spans of 26m each and width of 8m was built by Indiana Build infrastructure Pvt. Ltd, at an estimated cost of 7.41crore
The tender was awarded to Indiana Build on August 25, 2010 and it was declared to be completed by PWD officials on November 30, 2013. The new link is expected to ease the flow of traffic to hinterland areas of the state and also to Belgaom.Load testing of the pillars with the capacity of 70 tons was done by ENLAB Associates, Mumbai, on March 14, 2011. It is a normal procedure to carry the load testing only of the pillars and not of the spans. The bridge was all set for inauguration in June 2013 but the pre-monsoon showers in May exposed the shoddy work of the bridge. Several pot holes surfaced on the asphalted portion of approach roads on both the sides of the bridge. The concreted supporting portions in between both the bridges were washed off and numerous cracks developed on the road and supporting walls raising serious doubts about the quality of the work.
