"The sea beach of Karwar is certainly a fit place in which to realise that beauty of nature is not a mirage of imagination, but reflects the joy of the infinite and thus draws us to lose ourselves into it."
Rabindranath Tagore,1916

519 kms north-west of Bangalore & hardly 10KMS from Goa boundary is Karwar, also popularly called as "The Kashmir Of Karnataka". The district headquarters of Uttara Kannada, this is an ideal place to relax. Karwar has sacred pilgrim centers, historical towns and some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. It is said to have inspired Tagore to pen his first drama. The Devbagh Beach, is a must for beach lovers.
Karwar lies on a thin strip of tropical sand that is bound by the Western Ghats on its eastern side and embraced by the Arabian Sea on the west. On entering Karwar, one immediately comes face to face with the sea dotted with several small islands on the horizon. It is also famous for it's natural ports, Unique Temples, Navigator communities, Oldest fort. It also had the presence of East India Company & the kadwad-Sunkeri bridge of that era still exists.People live in harmony & unity with zero crime rate & obviously a cool place.
North Kanara GSB community comes from Karwar and villages around it. It was once the dominant community here. The Hindu High School founded by Nuna master and others was a school of excellence in education. But, by the turn of 20 th century, the Community is now almost extinct in Karwar, having migrated mostly to Mumbai.
