Battery Stevenson was named on February 12, 1902 in honor of Brigadier General Thomas G. Stevenson, the first colonel of the 24th Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, who was killed in action at Spottsylvania, Virginia on May 10, 1864, while in command of the 1st Division of the 9th Army Corps.
