One 10" disappearing carriage gun was mounted here from 1899 to 1914.

Battery Adams was named on February 12, 1902 in honor of Captain John G.B. Adams, 19th Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, who was seriously wounded at the battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and who won a medal of honor for distinguished gallantry in action.
