The Minneapolis, Saint Paul and Sault Ste. Marie Railroad, later known as the Soo Line, built this bridge in 1909. The rail line crossing over the Mississippi River here connected Brooten (near Glenwood) with Duluth. Falling traffic on this route led to closure in 1990, and abandonment three years later.
