Erzsébet Park (Gödöllő)

Hungary / Pest / Godollo / Gödöllő

Erzsébet Park ("Elizabeth Park") was built in memory of the assinated Queen Elizabeth of Bavaria, wife to Emporer Francis Joseph I. Although part of the park has been built on during and after the Communist era, a large scenic area of woodland remains, including a formal entrance with a long avenue of lindens. This entrance is next to the HÉV station that bears the name of the park, as well as next to a stall that sells home-made ice cream.
Follow the linden avenue to a partially-hidden artificial mini-mountain, a beautiful folly with a small tower, which can be easily climbed.
The park also houses the 1771 Kálvária ("Calvary") monument, commissioned by Grassalkovich.
