Cape Horn

Argentina / Tierra del Fuego / Ushuaia /
 cape (geography), invisible

The southernmost point in the Americas.
Location of many tragic shipwrecks before the Panama Canal was opened.
The Straits of Magellan, Beagle Channel and Cape Horn are important and highly significant geographic and historical landmarks of the southern tip of the South American continent. They possess peculiar beauty and very individual features. Tall snow-capped mountains, huge glaciers and forests characterize western Tierra del Fuego and the Beagle Channel, whilst the landscape of Cape Horn is dominated by remote islands, and sculpted by the strong westerly winds and the powerful waters of the Pacific Ocean.

  • True to it's reputation strong winds shook our ship as she rounded Cape Horn. No one was allowed on the open deck because of the rough waters. We had been through here at least three times and the place seem to greet us like an old friend.
