According to locals, this oasis was a way station for Abraham on his journey from Ur of the Chaldeas to Canaan. Tradition holds that he washed his feet in the water. The locals hold it very sacred. It is located "inside the wire" on Al Asad Air Base. Service members stationed at Al Asad must make special arrangement through their chaplains to visit, and even then must be accompanied by the chaplain. No swimming is allowed, for cultural and health reasons. It is located next to a date orchard. There are several aircraft hulks in the immediate vicinity.
