This 35-storey Menara Dayabumi was built by Japanese construction company Kumagai Gumi Co., Ltd. www.kumagaigumi.co.jp/ Construction began on 14 February 1982 and completed on February 1984. It was designed in a modern Islamic style. The facade of the tower is adorned with patterns of eight-pointed stars, and Islamic arches at the top and bottom of the tower. It is a major landmark in Kuala Lumpur. It houses several commercial facilities and is one of the earliest skyscrapers in the city.

Menara Dayabumi is the former headquarters of Petronas www.petronas.com.my/ Malaysia's national oil and gas company. Petronas used to operate from here prior to the completion of the Twin Towers. In 1998, the company moved its headquarters to the present location in the Petronas Twin Towers. Currently (as of 2010) the Department of Railway www.dor.gov.my/ is the major tenant of this building. Department of Railway is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transport www.mot.gov.my/
