During and immediately after the Civil War this was the camp where soldiers were bivouacked. Because the civilian neighbors considered the soldiers' behavior excessively rowdy, the camp was eventually moved out of town to its current location on Craycroft Road and renamed Fort Lowell. Three monuments are located here honoring those who fought in the Spanish-American War, World War I, and with the Mormon Battalion in 1846.
