neighborhood, draw only border, historic district
In order to follow the "one mile rule" established by the Southern Pacific Railroad, numerous railroad employees lived in this district in order to hear the whistle blow, calling them to work. It was developed beginning in 1890. Foundation stones of basalt on numerous residences were gathered locally from Sentinel Peak ('A' Mountain).
