Homesteads established in 1937 by local Catholic Priest in response to housing and work needs of minors in the midst of reductions in mining activity. Each plot was 5 acres, which allowed the owner/resident to generate income from farming activity while continuing to work at the mines half-time, which was all the industry could support. At the time, annual income was $1,200 per year for residents.
