This bridge is a border crossing between North Korea and China. The construction of the bridge was completed in 1938 by imperial Japan who controlled both sides of the border at the time. The bridge went through major refurbishment in 2009 financed entirely by the Chinese side, but in the fall of 2012 it was reported that owing to structural weaknesses that could not be overcome by the refurbishment effort, a limitation on crossable traffic has been imposed to reduce the strain on the aging bridge.
