Second Owl's Club (Tucson, Arizona)

USA / Arizona / South Tucson / Tucson, Arizona / North Main Avenue, 378
 historical building, Mission Revival (architecture)

Built in 1903, and designed by Trost & Rust, this building was designed as a larger facility for the Owl's Club fraternal organization. This massive two-story building is an eclectic mix of Mission Revival forms and Sullivanesque ornament. Trost incorporated playful reference to local architecture, including the immense, oversized canales, typical of Sonoran row houses; a sculpted facade, reminiscent of that of Mission San Xavier del Bac; and local flora and fauna. The building was renovated and the facade completely re-created from historic photos by Rob Boucher during an extensive restoration in 1985 after vandalism had reduced the building to a ruin.
