Steinfeld Mansion (Tucson, Arizona)

USA / Arizona / South Tucson / Tucson, Arizona / North Main Avenue, 300
 historic house, Mission Revival (architecture)

Built in 1898 and designed by Henry Trost as a residence for the thirteen bachelors who comprised the original Owl's Club, this two-story building reveals Trost's stylistic preference for combining Mission Revival forms, including "tiled" roofs and an arched portico with Sullivanesque ornament. What appear to be Spanish clay roof tiles are actually painted and textured pressed tin, probably from the same Missouri manufacturer who still produces them today. The empty niche in the center of the facade once held a statue of an owl. Oval attic vents and deep roof overhangs help to cool the building. Source: A Guide to Tucson Architecture
