Kharbhaiya Gaon. Kharbhaia,Patna.
In the pre-independence period the village had substantial Muslim population. On the northern side of the village ,an open area (pind) still goes by the name of Dargah. The sacred earthen mazar of Malo dadi ,considerd as the presiding deity n ancestor of the village , still revered by all the inhabitants , is situated on the side of the Dargah. On the southern side of the village, there is an old beautiful Masjid. The Masjid appears to be of early 20th century, given the architectural style.Near by there is a public well, which has the surrounding of smoothly carved and beautifully laid red sand stone , along with a small hauda. The village has three ponds on three sides of the village. The bigger one on the west side of the village is known as Phul Pokhar(pond of flower)- full of blooming Lotus flowers in late rainy n early winter season. The lanes of the village are wide and generally straight.
During the turbulant days of Sept 1946, the whole of Magadh region was engulfed in the communal frenzy of hatred, loot and killings across the religious divide.Which was a direct fall out of the call of Direct Action day by the Muslim League and the killings and loot resulting in its wake in Calcutta. The fire of communal hatred quickly reached this part of Bihar. There were large scale retaliatory attcks on muslim villages in the area. However ,Kharbhaia remained a shinig example of communal amity ,as Hindu peasants of the village and of Sarthua,Tope, Niyamatpur etc protected their Muslim bretheren from maurauding gangs. In the subsequent years there was migartion of the Muslims from the village to Bihar Sharif, Patna and to East and West Pakistan.
The belief system ,language and even rituals of the village folk symbolises the assimilative civilisational trait of India, the Ganga - Jamuni tahzeeb.Even after the passage of sixty years, the vocabulary of the village folks is quite rich in the Urdu words(though in a magahised form). The Magahi term for the last rite and the funeral procession(the last rite being held on the bank of river Ganga at Fatuha) is Matti- Manzil.
