village, archaeological site
The modern Turkish village of Örencik (previous names Haraba/Xaraba and then Küçükhamil), is located on a narrow ridge now surrounded on three sides by the waters of the artificial lake created by the Keban dam. This is part of the site (much of it being submerged under the lake) of the important ancient city called Arsamosata by the Greeks and Romans, Shamshat or Shimshat by the Arabs, Asmosaton by the Byzantines, and Arshamashat by the Armenians.
