  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Mountain_Reservation Not exactly wild, but a nice park in Essex County with a variety of paths. The walk that follows the east ridge (see trail map) is especially pleasant, and represents a good example of Olmstead's work in a more rustic setting.

  I remember going to the reservation in the 1950s. It had a deer feeding area. Rumor was that some "intrepid" hunter shot one of the deer.
