That complex was developed "back in the day" when Club Med was in full swing and the union representing hotel and restaurant workers was flush with cash. It included a ballroom, kitchen, restaurant, motel rooms, a laundromat/dry-cleaners, etc.
When Club Med and a couple of other union-repped resorts folded, the union struggled, and the Workers House complex began to struggle as well. The ballroom/kitchen are still rented out for special events - large dinners, talent shows, major community events, etc.
There are stories of exorbitant prices for rent/services, etc.
The local police have an office there now, and I believe the laundromat is still operating as well.
