The huge switch-house on the Fawley Power Station site. The energy output of the (now closed) oil-fired power station was sent here on its way to the National Grid. The voltage was stepped up by transformers outside the building, then the electrical energy was sent by underground cable to the switchgear inside this building. The switchgear here is enclosed to give it protection from the wet maritime environment. The smaller concrete building on the left of the photo contains another transformer for the submarine cables that cross Southampton Water. -Geograph
