Sancheong Hyanggyo Hongsalmun "gate with red arrows" outside entrance. A Hongsalmun was used to indicate Confucian facilities.
Sancheong Hyanggyo, a public Confucian School, established in 1440 was burned to the ground twice during the Japanese lnvasions (1592-1598) and again in 1598. The hyanggyo was eventually rebuilt on the present site in 1755 and was renovated several times thereafter, continuing to play a pivotal role in the cultivation of local talent and cultural development of the region as a central agency for the local education system until almost the end of the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910).
