Namgye Seowon Hongsalmun ("Red Spiked Gate) outside the seowon entrance.
Namgye Seowon was the second oldest private Confucian school in Korea established in 1552 to memorialize Jeong Yeo-chang. The name of the academy derives from the stream in front of the seowon and was relocated to its present site in 1612. The design of Namgye Seowon is architecturally very significant since it represents one of the earliest attempts to define a paradigm for private academy construction.
