This is the KCD pit which has reserves of 33Mt of reserves with an average grade of 2.4 grams per tonne for a resource of 2.5-3 million ounces. Mining commenced in July 2012 with 3 Liebher 9350 and 1 Liebher 984 diggers, and a fleet of 19 Caterlillar 777G haul trucks and other related support equipment such as dozers, graders, loaders, and water haulers. KCD is a culmination of the 3 separate Karagba, Chauffeur, and Durba deposits, which in turn are part of the Kibali-Durba-Karagba Mineralised Trend which is 7km long trending to the north east. The mineralised lenses within the deposits are north east plunging 25-30 degrees within the trend, and are generally elongated ellipse-shaped bodies with extensive down-plunge extent. The pit is mining the economic ore within the feasible pit shell, with the rest being exploited using underground methods.
