  • This temple is dedicated to Maa Sati/Parvati. The form is of Mahishasurmardini. Daksh was the father of Parvati in her previous birth Sati. He organized a great yagya and when Sati got the news of this yagya she took interest to go there without any invitation, Shiv ordered her not to go there as it will cause harm and insult, but Sati didn't stopped and because of anger she showed her 10 Mahavidya avatar(refer to Wikipedia) and told Shiv that she will go inspite of his disapproval, when she reached the spot and seeing her her father Prajapati Daksh insulted both Sati and Shiv, she didn't beard this atrocities, she showed herself as Adishakti Durga and cursed her father and through her powers she destroyed herself and at last her body was destroyed by Vishnu and wherever her body parts had fall, these became Shakti Peeth and in Jajpur her Navel fell so we all worship her as Maa Biraja...
