Tree Island (Sandy Island)

Canada / British Columbia / Courtenay /
 park, island

Lovely Tree Island is a provincial park, accessible by boat only, or by foot at very low tides across the exposed tidal flats. In the summer it hosts many visitors to its sandy shoreline. A boardwalk on the more ecologically vulnerable section of the park protects the sandy soil and sparse vegetation from the tramping feet of hikers. It's a little piece of paradise, affording lovely views of the mountains of Vancouver Island to the west, and the Strait of Georgia to the East.
