Eternal Flame Falls is a small waterfall located in the Southeastern portion of Chestnut Ridge Park, famous for a small grotto at the waterfall's base which has a natural seep of Natural Gas, which burns almost continuously. Scientific study of the seep have revealed that the gasses originate from Rhinestreet Shale formation, which lies approximately 1,300ft (400m) below the surface, and was likely formed by tectonic activity that likely opened faults in the shale.

Originally a local attraction, the flame has become a major tourist attraction. Despite it's moniker, the flame can be extinguished and must be periodically re-lit.
