  • The distinctive wide main street is your first clue to this town's history. It was an one time one of the most vibrant market towns in the area. The town continues to have a strong business leaning being home to the largest gypsum mine in the country, and to Kingspan, which is one of the wlord's largest manufacturers of insulated building products. The town is home to an aray of pubs, including Gartlans a thatched pub on the Shercock side of Main Street, which is one of the pus featured on the popular "Pubs of Ireland" poster. But behind its business-like exterior Kingscourt lays claim to one of the most beautiful self-enclosed parks in Ireland, Dun-a-Ri. Leave aside the history of the beautifully set Wishing Well, Ice House, Barracks and other assorted buildings hidden in the forest, rivers and lakes which make up Du a Ri, and take in the beauty of a park which was once a popular location for school trips but which is now largely enjoyed only by locals and others in the know. Cabra Catle on the Carraickmacross Road is a boutique hotel occupying the building which was once the centre of the estate which comprised he Dun a Ri and much of the surrounding land.
