Mulki - was once a very prominent port connecting key cities of the coast. Today it is a small town with a population of less than 15,000. Mulki derives its name from "Moolikapura" - meaning a town of herbs.

Mulki is famous today for two of its temples - Sri Durga Parameshwari Temple and Sri Venkataramana Temple.

  • Shri Durga Parameshwari Temple was built by a Muslim trader, named Bappa Bairi and the place is called Bappanadu. When the annual rathosthava is held in this temple, it is an usual tradition of the temple to call the members of Bappa Bairi family to join rathayatra with the pulling of rath (chariat)when the journey of this Chariat starts. =Shaikh Ummer Hejmady= Mumbai.
