  • The Zócalo is the legendary site at which in 1521 the Mexica found the sign of the promised land: an eagle perched on a cactus and holding a snake. The memorial fountain is at the southeast corner of the square. The Metropolitan Cathedral, roughly the same age as St. Peter's in Rome, dominates the northern side of the square and the ruins of the Mexica's Templo Mayor and museum are just to the east of the Cathedral.
  • The Ancient Undergrond Aztec City.
  • The Mexica did NOT see the sign of the promised land at the site of the Zocalo. that is the year that the Spanish COMPLETED their conquest of the Mexica. The legend that you write of took place in the 13th century, roughly 300 YEARS before 1521.
  • This SHOULD have read: The Mexica did NOT see the sign of the promised land at the site of the Zocalo in 1521. that is the year that the Spanish COMPLETED their conquest of the Mexica. The legend that you write of took place in the 13th century (circa 1248 CE), or about 300 YEARS before 1521.
  • The actual date the Mexica registered for the sigth ofh the eagle in the cactus, and also the date commonly accepted for the foundation of Mexico-Tenochtilan was March 13th, 1325.
