Old fortress Soko, also known as Sokol or Sokolac, is one of the most important fortresses in medieval Kingdom of Bosnia. Fortress especially came to prominence in time of Ottoman conquest of medieval Kingdom of Bosnia, and royal city of Jajce, resurgence of Kingdom under Hungarians, and final fall, events which spanned between 1463-1521.
Jajce with it's royal court and citadel is just north-east from Soko, while small town of Šipovo is situated on the confluence of the Pliva river and the Janj river just east from Soko.
Although border between two Bosna's administrative entities goes through the middle of this area, between moder day towns of Šipovo and Jajce, it is still one economical, touristic, cultural and historical whole, with Jajce as a regional center.
