Hakīm Abū l-Qāsim Firdawsī Tūsī (Persian: حکیم ابوالقاسم فردوسی توسی), more commonly transliterated as Ferdowsi, (935–1020) is one of the most celebrated Persian poets of all times. He was the author of the Shāhnāmeh, the national epic of Persian-speaking world as well as the entire Iranian realm. His mausoleum is located in Tous, Razavi Khorasan province, Iran.

The Shahnameh is an enormous poetic opus written around 1000 AD. It is the national epic of the Persian speaking world. It tells the mythical and historical past of Iran from the creation of the world up until the Islamic conquest of Iran in the 7th century.
