Historic former ranch complex (now a nature preserve) listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).

Original name: Fern Mountain Ranch
Built: c. 1890
Architectural style: log cabin (main house)
Areas of significance: Agriculture; Transportation
Area: 4.85 acres
Date added to NRHP: 3/29/1978
Notes: This early pioneer ranch remains very close in appearance and use to its earliest days. In the first decade of its existence, it hosted travelers who were on their way between Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon until the advent of rail transportation around the turn of the century ended this function. In 1994, the ranch was donated to The Nature Conservancy, a charitable environmental organization. The Nature Conservancy, in their own words, uses the ranch as "...a living laboratory for research partners and fellow land managers leading to a greater understanding of ecological processes and effective restoration." The preserve contains one of the world's most important groves of Bebb Willow trees, as well as rare wildflowers and other ecologically important flora and fauna.

* The polygon represents the acreage of the preserve covered by the NRHP listing. The preserve as a whole is 245 acres in size.
