Marked as a Michigan Historic Site. The first poured concrete building built during winter in a cold-weather climate. Built during the Great Depression by the Works Progress Administration; designed and finished in a classic art deco style. The current courthouse opened October 21, 1934. The building was designed by architect William H. Kuni of Detroit and built by the Henry C. Webber Construction Co. of locally produced poured Portland cement made from locally quarried limestone.
Houses the 26th Judicical Circuit Court for the County of Alpena, the Alpena County Clerk, Alpena County Register of Deeds, Alpena County Treasurer, and Alpena County Equilization Department, and the Alpena County Board of Commissioners.
