At 6:30PM on February 3rd, 2015, a Wassaic-bound Metro North Railroad Train struck a SUV at this location as the vehicle attempted to cross the tracks after the warning gates had closed. Following the impact, the SUV and its driver were pushed more than 400ft up the track bed in front of the train before coming to a stop, the SUV's frame dislodging the electrified 3rd rail and sending a large portion of it piercing into the lead train car. Upon coming to a stop, sparks from the 3rd rail ignited gasoline spilling from the vehicles punctured gas tank, starting a fire which consumed much of the lead car on the train.

Initial reports indicate that six people, including the driver of the vehicle, were killed in the accident with a further fifteen suffering injuries that required hospitalization. Fires on the lead train car burned for several hours before being extinguished by local fire department personnel. The accident is now under the investigation of the NTSB.
