military, missile launch facility
Originally known as Army Launch Area Five, LC38 was built in the 1960s to test the Nike Zeus anti-ballistic missile system. The tracking radars are centred in the LC with the assembly areas and launcher to the north, and the separate long-range tracking radar, ZAR, on the eastern end of the site.
Since 1969, the site was turned over to testing what was then known as SAM-X, and today known as Patriot. It continues to be used for Patriot to this day.
