Established in 1912 as the Brethern in Christ Church, the congregation held services at the Swederborgian Church of the Redeemer at Andrews and Detroit. In 1923, the present church was opened even though constructio was not complete until 1926. In 1946, the church became an Evangelical United Brethren Church when the Evangelical Association and the United Brethren in Christ Church joined forces. Then in 1968 it became a United Methodist Church. This denomination came into being and as a result of the merger of the Methodist Episcopal and the Evangelical United Brethren Church.
