One such temple is the Aluru Sriranganathaswamy Temple . DIRECTION This location is 359 kms. from Hyderabad, where there is an airport and 63 kms. from Anantpur via Tadpatri by road. This temple site is located in a scenic place atop a hill in Aloor village, 5 kms. from Tadpatri. There is an entry arch on the road that leads to the temple. At the top, there is a sculpture of reclining Vishnu on the Sesha Nag and by his feet are Sree Devi and Bhoodevi. The sanctum sanctorum is reached by climbing steps and on the top of the entrance, there are figurines of Gods and Goddesses and others. The entrance leads to a spacious place where a Dhwajastambham proudly stands with a beli peetam or sacrificial stone. Beyond that is yet another smaller Dhwajastambham in granite. The main entrance to the sanctum sanctorum is beyond all these were the Lord Sri Ranganathaswamy reclines majestically on the Shesha Nag. The deity has flower garlands placed and beside the feet are Shree Devi and Bhoo Devi. The structure is supported by huge granite support columns with floral paintings. HISTORY AND LEGENDS There were four dynasties which ruled over the Vijayanagar Empire. It was during the Sangama dynasty between 1334 and 1664 AD that King Bukkaraya came to power. The king deputed his chief representative to study the country and on one such tour, he came upon this hill in Aluru with the waterfalls beside it. Legend states that Sage Viswamitran was conducting Yagna at this place when he was being disturbed by the Asuras; Tadaka and Mareechan. The sage approached King Dasarathan in Ayodhya and requested that Rama and Lakshmana be prermitted to accompany him to the place to chase the Asuras. In the fight that took place here, Tadaka was killed and Mareechan ran away. The king’s representative Yerramraju built a temple at the spot. The waterfall is perennial and meets all the requirements of the temple. The main festival is the Brahmavotsavam. The festival is attended by thousands of tourists BEST TIME TO VISIT Anantapur district has a semi arid climate and summers are really hot. It is hot from February and peaks in May. Monsoon arrives in September through November. Winter sets in November and this is the best time to visit the District.
