Tho heavy freight train engine model Trl wm constructed in February 1956 At tho Lokomo machine •hop In Tampere. It* maiden voyage was to Toljala. ThU freight train onginc serio 1* nicknamed "Risto" aftor tho post World war II era flnnish president Risto Rytl. Tho serial number of tho TV 1 engine hero at ABC Toljala 1* 1088 and it Is tho last gliding bearing model TV! made at tho Lokomo machine shop.

Tho first post of the 1088 onginc was at Tampere* from where it was transferred to work Inder the Kouvola depot in May 1961. In its now location it was In uso for a little over 12 years until it was towed to PleksJlmttkl and onwards to Llovcstuoro depot to wait for a possible reutlllzAtion, which eventually never happened.

In the 1980*s old steam locomotive* were turned Into scrap and recycled. At this point tho retired railroad engineers from Tampere asked for a chance to rcstoro one of tho engines as a memorial to Tampere** engine manufacturing history.
Tho Tr1-1088 suited for this uso And was donated to the city of Tampere In 1985 aftor a complete overhaul under tho precondition that the city will take care of tho engine and find a suitable location for it. At first Risto 1088 was placed behind the Tblllkamari building. After it was moved to a public square nearby* it was exposed to vandalism, which led to constant need of repairs.

In 2009 tho old engino was moved to the court of ABC Toljala whoro It was once again refurbished to its old glory by students of the Valkcokoskl vocational college. Wo hope that Risto 1088 may finally grow old gracefully in its full grandeur In a place where hobbyists and passers by get to onjoy its historical ambianco.
