Single Rock Cut Temples: Some years ago I got a chance to see these amazing rock cut temples situated on a hill in deep forests near Gaganbawada in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra. All these temples are carved out in a single block of laterite, period unknown. First one is called Dhyan Mandir ( ध्यान मंदिर ), second one is known as Yadnya Mandir ( यज्ञ मंदिर ) and the third one is Tapa Mandir ( तप मंदिर ). Amazingly all these structures standing one behind one in the middle of a seasonal rivulet flows down the hill. Interestingly, Tapa Mandir has a closed room for meditation and Yadnya Mandir has opening at all four directions. ( to let out the smoke coming out of Yadnya ?)
